Voice Actress

The Resume

    (June 27, 1938- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Now known by her married name, Kathryn Levine
English actress, singer, and school teacher
Best known as the voice of Alice in Disney's 'Alice in Wonderland' (1951) and Wendy Darling in Disney's 'Peter Pan' (1953)
Also acted in ‘It Happened One Sunday,’ ‘On an Island with You,’ ‘The Secret Garden,’ and ‘Challenge to Lassie’
Provided voice work as Alice/Wendy for the Disney video games, 'Villains Revenge' and the 'Kingdom Hearts" series

Why she might be annoying:

She briefly dated the self-destructive child-star Bobby Driscoll.
Not only did Wendy 'grow up,' but she didn't have any kids of her own!
She was surprised that Ed Wynn wasn't 'funny all the time' between takes as the Mad Hatter.
She began her career at the age of six, as MGM's back-up Margaret O'Brien.
Ironically, O'Brien was slated to appear as Disney's Alice, but her mother's salary demands resulted in the deal falling through and her stand-in getting the role instead.
After working with Disney, she remained inactive for forty years, returning only to do voice-work for Alice.
By signing with Disney she also replaced Luana Patten as Disney's premiere child actress (until Hayley Mills came along...)
As an elementary school teacher, inevitably her students would find out about her past work with Disney and identify her as Alice/Wendy for the rest of the school year.

Why she might not be annoying:

She holds a special place in the hearts of generations of children.
She has a beautiful voice which has remained youthful into her 70s.
She retired from acting early and went to school full-time, avoiding the sad fate of her Peter Pan co-star.
She bore a remarkable resemblance to the film's Alice in both appearance and mannerisms, and did live modeling for the film's animators to work with.
She believes that she had the advantage in making the transition from child star to ordinary student, mainly because 'in a sense, the roles that I did were somewhat anonymous because I lent my voice, not my physical being.'
On the universality of the her work with Disney, she said 'it's something adults look back on, and they can enjoy the nostalgia of childhood itself.'
She was named a 'Disney Legend' by the Walt Disney Company in 1998.
She doesn't mind that she'll be always best known as Alice/Wendy, and she enjoys talking to children about her experiences with Disney.
She and Bobby Driscoll were asked to emulate 'bad teen behavior' for a Movie Teen Magazine spread on theater etiquette. It turned out to be a tabloid hit-job, designed to make them look like 'temperamental stars.' (1953)
