The Resume

    (April 9, 1954- )
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom
Member of Parliament for Chingford and Woodford Green (1997- )
Leader of the Conservative Party (2001-03)
Appointed by David Cameron as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (2010)
Wrote the novel 'The Devil's Tune' (2003)

Why he might be annoying:

He lied about his education on his curriculum vitae.
His constant throat clearing during Prime Minister's Questions prompted 'Private Eye' to dub him Iain Duncan Cough.
As party leader, he demanded that Conservatives 'unite or die,' even though during his days as a backbencher he had been a continual thorn in John Major's side.
He lost a 'no confidence' vote and was replaced as party leader (October 29, 2003).
He complained about university graduates going on welfare because they consider themselves 'too good' to do menial work, but he drew unemployment benefits after he left the army.
He complained about the 'appalling demonisation' of Mitt Romney after the candidate's gaffe-filled visit to Britain.
The Daily Telegraph's assessment of his novel: 'Really, it's terrible. Terrible, terrible, terrible.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was elected to lead the Conservatives thanks to support from Margaret Thatcher.
After a visit to the Easterhouse community project, he said he wanted to make Conservatives 'the party of the poor.'
He implemented a work program that got half of participants off welfare within five months.
He said, 'Work has to be seen as the best route out of poverty. For work is not just about more money, it's about taking responsibility for yourself and your family.'
Although a Catholic, he went against the Church to support same-sex marriage, saying it would promote stabile relationships (2012).
