TV Executive

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He birthed the reality show genre.
He disliked this moniker and would regularly insist that American Family was nothing like a reality show.
His defense was that the show was neither scripted nor manipulated (which comes off as sounding even more exploitative).
He often overstepped family boundaries with his show, causing a permanent rift within the Loud family.
He insisted on filming Pat Loud asking husband Bill for a divorce, which even the film crew objected to.
He and Pat Loud allegedly had an affair during filming, although both parties vehemently denied this.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Navy in the early 1950s.
He worked as a production assistant on instructional films and 'March of Time' newsreels.
His early documentary work included films on Margaret Mead and Christy Brown.
'American Family' drew in 10 million viewers - a huge audience for a PBS show.
Despite its success, he never worked on a major television project after 'American Family.'
He spent his last years living alone in an apartment, relying on money he had inherited from his parents.
