The Resume

    (2014- )
Maddie Marlow (1995 - ), born in Sugar Land, Texas
Taylor Dye (1995 - ), born in Ada, Oklahoma
Released their first single, 'Girl in a Country Song,' co-written with Aaron Scherz (July, 2014)

Why they might be annoying:

Their debut music video features an overweight 'cowboy' strutting in a heavily sexualized, feminine manner (suggestively washing cars, eating strawberries, etc.).
His presence is supposed to critique the double standard for gender in country music videos but its unlikely a woman with the same body type would be as heavily sexualized.
Their career was surrounded by hype since their signing with Dot Records in June of 2014, before even releasing a single.
They were hyped as 'the next Taylor Swift,' mainly because they both started out with Big Machine Records.
They may have already burned their bridges in the music industry, depending on how many 'bro-country artists' have a sense of humor (they take shots at Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Jake Owen,Trace Adkins, and Florida-Georgia Line in the lyrics to 'Girl in a Country Song').
They count The Dixie Chicks as among their major influences.
They give unfiltered interviews; gladly answering questions as to who burps and farts more (Tae on both counts).
Their song has been whole-heartedly embraced by the feminist community, but they refuse to identify as feminists themselves.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their song is groundbreaking in that it is sung from the perspective of sexualized women in the 'bro-country' videos ('can I put on some real clothes now?').
Florida-Georgia Line singer, Brian Kelly, took issue with their song, saying 'All I'm gonna say about that is, I don't know one girl who doesn't want to be a girl in a country song ... That's all I'm gonna say to you.'
They responded by issuing a statement saying 'We love them and their music, but you see, he's a dude.... He doesn't know what it's like to be a woman, or to be the girl in these songs.'
They have been called the anti-RaeLynn, with the message to 'Girl in a Country Song' serving as a counter to the message of 'God Made Girls.'
'Girl in a Country Song' was an immediate hit, quickly climbing its way to the Top Ten US Hot Country Songs (not bad for the debut single by two 18 year olds).
They met when Tae heard Maddie sing at a function in North Texas.
Tae shares a hometown with Blake Shelton and is good friends with his former High School music teacher in Ada, OK.
Maddie honed her vocal skills by singing the National Anthem at her brother's basketball games.
Unlike many musical groups, they seem to genuinely like each other and to enjoy each other's company.
They met at the ages of 15, through a vocal coach they shared.
