    Played for the Chicago Cubs (1959-1974) and Oakland Athletics (1975-1976)
    National League Rookie of the Year (1961)
    National League All Star (1962, 1964-1965, 1968, 1972-1973)
    Inducted in to the National Baseball Hall of Fame (1987)
    His number 26 was retired by the Chicago Cubs (August 13, 1987)

    His nickname is 'Sweet.'
    He never played in the World Series.
    He batted left-handed and threw right-handed.
    He was overshadowed throughout his entire career.
    In his last season, 1976, he batted .211.

    Thankfully, he never went by William Williams.
    He set a National League record for playing 1,117 consecutive games in 1971. The record was later eclipsed by Steve Garvey.
    He helped lead the A's to the ALCS in 1975.
    Unlike the majority of his former Cub teammates, he got to play in the playoffs.
    He had the best batting average in the league in 1972.
    While playing in the Texas League, he was given batting lessons by baseball legend Roger Hornsby.
    He was the second player to have his number retired by the Cubs.
    He was a quiet player.
    He hit for the cycle (July 17, 1968).
