The Resume

    (September 17, 1925-November 15, 2003)
    Born in Boston, Massachusetts
Portrayed Miss Hannigan in ‘Annie’ on Broadway (1977-78)
Also appeared on Broadway in ‘Nowhere to Go But Up’ (1962), ‘Noel Coward’s Sweet Potato’ (1968), ‘Three Men on a Horse’ (1969-70), ‘The Women’ (1973), ‘Sweeney Todd’ (1980), ‘Noises Off’ (1983-85), ‘Jerry’s Girls’ (1985-86), and ‘Dinner at Eight’ (2002-03)
Appeared in the films ‘Garbo Talks’ (1984) and ‘Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ (1997)

Why she might be annoying:

She tried to shave eight years off her age and claim 1933 as her birth year.
Her stage success never transferred to TV or movies.
Her acting was not exactly subtle, with a New York Times critic writing about her performance at the 1983 Tony Awards, ‘Miss Loudon has developed the art of mugging into something of a hyperactive disease.’
She returned as Miss Hannigan in the ill-fated sequel ‘Annie 2: Miss Hannigan’s Revenge,’ which closed during the out-of-town previews (1989).

Why she might not be annoying:

In her cabaret act, she lampooned everyone from Ella Fitzgerald to Shirley Temple.
As a cast member on ‘The Gary Moore Show,’ she held her own opposite opera diva Joan Sutherland in a fifteen-minute long musical medley about New York City.
She won the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical for ‘Annie.’
She was personally chosen by Stephen Sondheim to succeed Angela Lansbury in ‘Sweeney Todd.’
She said, ‘In the scripts I get to do the things I enjoy most -- playing comedy and singing. I love my work so much that sometimes I feel guilty being paid for it.’
