The Resume

    (1967-June 14, 1978)
    California Seals (1967-November 1967)
    Oakland Seals (November 1967-70)
    California Golden Seals (1970-74)
    California Seals (1975-76)
    Cleveland Barons (October 6, 1976-April 8, 1978)
Absorbed into the Minnesota North Stars (June 14, 1978-2001)
    San Jose Sharks (2001- )
Played at Oakland/Alameda County Coliseum and Richfield Coliseum

Why they might be annoying:

Their history is insane. They started in Oakland, moved to Cleveland, the owners merged them into Minnesota and twenty years later merged out to form San Jose.
Their franchise name was changed from California to Oakland Seals in their first season.
Talk about trying to put a new look on the same old thing, within three years they played under three different names (California Seals, Oakland Seals and California Golden Seals).
They wore white ice skates (1970).
The Richfield Coliseum is an hours drive from Cleveland.
In their first season 83% of their games did not sell even 10,000 tickets.
In their two seasons in Cleveland their record attendance was 13,110, which was 5,000 seats short of a sell out.
They had trouble meeting their payroll. They missed payroll twice in February 1977.
Although they were absorbed/merged, the NHL lost a team, which had not happened since the New York/Brooklyn Americans folded in 1942.
They played 15 consecutive games without a win (1978).
They entered the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and St. Louis Blues (1967). Historically, they were by far the least successful of that expansion class.

Why they might not be annoying:

They took their name from the AHL Cleveland Barons (1937-73).
The AHL Barons moved to Florida when the Cleveland Crusaders began playing for the WHA. Ironically these Barons moved from Oakland to Cleveland, when the Crusaders moved their WHA franchise to Minnesota. Two seasons later they were merged into the Minnesota North Stars.
The Cleveland Baron ended their interest in the Minnesota North Stars/Dallas Stars in 2001 to became the basis of the San Jose Sharks. The San Jose Sharks ironically (there is that word again) established a minor league farm team which of course they named the Cleveland Barons.
They played in the Richfield Coliseum, the largest seating capacity hockey arena (18,544).
