Why he might be annoying:

    He was divorced.
He was basically a B-movie matinee idol.
John Ford biographer Scott Eyman's opinion of him was as follows: 'Suffice it to say that when Preston Foster is the strongest lead actor in a movie, that movie is in trouble.'
He was typecast in antagonist roles - usually unsympathetic heavies or ruthless gangster parts.
When asked if he enjoyed playing villain roles, he answered: 'I don't, but my mother does. Every time I do a part like this, she writes, It was a nice picture, Preston, but do you have to play roles like that?’

Why he might not be annoying:

He began his career as an opera singer.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He holds the honorary rank of Commodore.
He was described as being relatively easy to work with by castmates and directors.
He enjoyed boating and deep-sea marlin fishing off of California's southern coast.
He was a versatile character actor, playing everything from a family-deserting criminal in 'Public Enemy' to a fatherly chaplain on the Pacific warfront in 'Guadalcanal Diary.'
When the San Diego Padres made their debut in the Major Leagues, in 1969, he penned their first official team song ('Let's Go Padres').
