The Resume

    (December 28, 1842-January 21, 1891)
    Born in Vercheres, Quebec, Canada
    Birth name was Calixte Lavallee
Composed the comic opera 'Loulou' and the operettas 'The Bridal Rose Overture' and 'The King of Diamonds'
Wrote the music for 'O Canada' (1880)

Why he might be annoying:

What's the point of changing your name from 'Calixte' to 'Calixa'?
The scores for several of his compositions were lost.
Despite composing Canada's national anthem, he spent most of his career in the United States.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Union Army during the US Civil War and was wounded during the Battle of Antietam.
The Canadian government stiffed him after he paid out of pocket most of the expenses for a musical ceremony welcoming the new governor-general (1879).
'O Canada' was officially adopted as the national anthem (1980).
