Why he might be annoying:

He resembles the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from ‘Ghostbusters’ (1984).
He was created by the founder of the Quebec Carnival to generate interest in the event.
The identity of the Bonhomme portrayers is kept top secret.
He uses body doubles.
The carnival organizers sued a Quebec publisher over a novel about a cocaine smuggling, gun wielding Bonhomme (2001).
The Bonhomme portrayers formed a union in 2005 but it didn’t last.
Drunken spectators threw snowballs at him during the Carnival’s closing parade one winter.

He is a beloved Canadian icon.
He represents the world’s biggest and best known winter carnival.
He wears a traditional French Canadian tuque and striped sash.
He can speak, unlike most mascots.
The carnival partially funds itself by selling collectible Bonhomme figurines.
He played the drums for Men Without Hats in their video for the hit single ‘Pop Goes the World’ (1987).
He officially closes the Quebec Carnival during a nighttime parade.
