Affiliated with the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association
Member of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (1886-98), Canadian Amateur Hockey League (1899-1905), Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association (1906-08) and the Interprovincial Amateur Hockey Union (1908-10)
    4 time Stanley Cup champions (1893, 1894, 1902, 1903)

Why Montreal Hockey Club might be annoying:

Two of their Stanley Cup victores came uncontested.
The AAA went behind the hockey team's back and accepted the trophy on their behalf.
Although they won the inaugural Stanley Cup by virtue of best overall record, their first Stanley Cup Final match didn't come until the following year.
They refused to accept the initial Stanley Cup trophy as a result of a dispute with the Amateur Athletic Association, who was sponsoring the team.

Why Montreal Hockey Club might not be annoying:

They were one of the first organized ice hockey teams at any level of play.
They have the unique distinction of being the first team to win the Stanley Cup.
They were the first of five teams from the Montreal area to be crowned Stanley Cup champions.
In a fitting coincidence, the Centennial Stanley Cup title was won by the city's successor team, the Canadiens 100 years later (1993).
