Social studies teacher from Concord High School in New Hampshire
Winner of the NASA Teacher in Space Program (July 19, 1985)
Trained as a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle Challenger (1985)
Died at 37 in the Challenger Shuttle Disaster (January 28, 1986)
Posthumously awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor

Why she might be annoying:

The world lost a true hero.
Her students watched in horror as she and her space shuttle exploded.
She unfortunately left her husband a widower and her small children motherless.
Her fame overshadowed many of her crewmates on the Challenger.
She went by her middle name.

Her students called her a 'marvelous teacher who made their lessons come alive.'
She was selected from over 11,500 other applicants to be the first civilian in space.
She, along with her fellow crewmates, were tragically killed when the Challenger shuttle exploded 73 seconds after launch (1986).
The Christa McAuliffe Planetarium in New Hampshire was built in her honor (1990).
