The Resume

    (March 25, 1938-October 26, 1999)
Wrote and recorded 'Greenback Dollar,' 'The Pusher,' 'Joy To The World,' 'Never Been To Spain,' 'When The Morning Comes (duet with Linda Ronstadt),' 'Boney Fingers,' 'The No No Song,' 'Rusty Old Halo' and 'Della and The Dealer'
Acted in 'The Black Stallion (1979),' 'Heart Like a Wheel (1983),' 'Gremlins (1984),' 'Retribution (1988),' 'We're No Angels (1989),' 'Harmony Cats (1993),' 'Season of Change (1994)' and 'King Cobra (1999)'

Why he might be annoying:

Many of the songs he wrote and recorded were were bigger hits with other artists, such as 'Greenback Dollar' for the Kingston Trio, 'The Pusher' for Steppenwolf, 'Joy To The World' and 'Never Been To Spain' for Three Dog Night and 'The No No Song' for Ringo Starr.
He didn't make a lot of money for 'Greenback Dollar' because of a crooked publisher. Living in his car at the time, he didn't sue because he said the whole point of the song was not 'giving a damn about no greenback dollar.'
He sang in TV commercials for McDonald's Big Macs, Pizza Hut and Busch beer.
He started his own record company, Jeremiah Records (named after the bullfrog in 'Joy To The World') in 1978, which folded in 1982.
He was married four times and divorced thrice.
His last movie, 'King Cobra,' tried to capitalize on popularity of the hit movie 'Anaconda (1997),' going so far as to be subtitled 'Anaconda 2.' It was comical for all the wrong reasons and a box office disaster.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the United States Navy.
His mother wrote the Elvis Pressly breakthrough hit song 'Heartbreak Hotel.'
He wrote 'The Pusher' in 1963 after one of his best friends suffered a fatal drug overdose. The song was included in the 'Easy Rider (1969)' soundtrack for which he was paid considerable royalties.
He made a guest appearance in TV's 'Bonanza' (1965). This led to further roles in both television and the movies.
Three Dog Night's cover of 'Joy To The World' stayed on top of the Top 40 charts for six weeks and was the #1 song of 1971.
He played convincing father figures in both 'The Black Stallion' and 'Gremlins,' the former of which he wrote his own lines for the script.
    He suffered a stroke (1995).
He made a valliant effort to return to song writing and recording, but suffered through a series of heart attacks and died at age 61 (1999).
He was married to his last wife for just two years when he died.
