Nepotism for Disney is evident in his career.
He had a hard time finding a new permanent collaborator after the death of composer Howard Ashman in 1991.
The word 'shit' was censored during the 1987 Oscars when his song from 'Little Shop of Horrors' called 'Mean Green Mother from Outer Space' was performed live.
He and Stephen Schwartz were nominated thrice in the Best Original Song category for 'Enchanted.' However, they lost all three of their bids to the song 'Falling Slowly' from 'Once (2007).'

He is one of a few individuals to score double Oscar wins in two consecutive years.
