Why he might be annoying:

His birthplace is recorded in different biographies as Minnesota or Oklahoma City.
He began recording as The Cochran Brothers with Hank Cochran, who, despite the name, was not related.
His last single released before his death, eerily enough, was titled ‘Three Steps to Heaven.'
In Britain, he had four hits while alive and eight posthumously.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was part of the first rock and roll show to tour Australia (1957)
He tried to record ‘Three Stars,' a tribute to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, but he kept breaking into tears during the song.
He indirectly brought John Lennon and Paul McCartney together, when Paul taught John the chords to ‘Twenty Flight Rock' (June, 1957).
‘Summertime Blues' remains a classic of teen rebellion and was a hit for both Blue Cheer (1968) and the Who (1970).
