Swimmer

The Resume

    (May 2, 2000- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Won gold medals in 200-meter freestyle and 4x200-meter freestyle medley at the Tokyo Summer Olympics (2021)
Named a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to swimming (2022)

Why he might be annoying:

He was a math whiz as a child, with his mother noting that he 'used to bore us by reciting pi to about 5,000 places. The rest of the kids would say, 'Yawn, Tom!''
After he got a tattoo of the Olympic rings, he said, 'As long as it doesn't become a full-on sleeve, I think my mum will be okay.'
He called his post-Olympic fame 'surreal.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Bath while training at the National Centre for Swimming.
He was the first male British swimmer to win two gold medals at the same Olympic games since 1908. (Although he was followed in the same week by Adam Peaty and James Guy.)
His Olympic success came despite his missing six weeks of training after twice being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Video went viral of his family and 70 friends holding a 'garden party' at 2:30 AM London time to celebrate his victory in the 200-meter freestyle race.
