Hockey Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He was deemed ineligible to play for the remainder of the 1982-83 season, after he missed one of his classes.
He dropped out of college to sign a contract with the Flames as a result.
He was remembered for laying out Dale Hawerchuk with a vicious cross-check during the Flames playoff series against Winnipeg (1985).
He was involved in a near-fatal car crash, after he veered into three lanes of traffic on a freeway, before slamming into another vehicle head on (May 11, 1987).
The impact of the crash initally had first responders assume he was dead, but his arm was pinned and he had to be extricated from the vehicle with the jaws of life.
He was charged with both impaired and dangerous driving, along with receiving a $1,000 fine.
He slashed Pat LaFontaine in the face, which broke the latter's jaw and knocked out his teeth.
He was traded from the Maple Leafs to the Red Wings for practically nothing.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was signed by the Flames as part of Cliff Fletcher's strategy to exclusively scout the NCAA ranks at a time when it was unheard of.
His solid defensive play made him a valuable asset for every team he played for.
He overcame the odds and was able to make a return to active play 17 months after the crash that nearly claimed his life.
Coincidentally, he became a member of the Flames team that captured the franchise's first Stanley Cup title that same season (1988-89).
He was one of the central pieces of the 10 player trade that brought Doug Gilmour to Toronto.
He got the opportunity to play for his hometown Maple Leafs, where he served as one of the anchors on the blueline for six years.
He earned a second Stanley Cup ring late in his career, when he was traded to the Red Wings, to add depth to the team's blueline for their playoff run (1998).
He and his wife operated a stuffed toy business during his tenure with the Flames, along with him venturing into a post-hockey career in real estate.
