He quit school at sixteen.
He and Elton John first collaborated by mail and did not meet face to face until half a year later.
Although he participated in studio sessions and tours he never performed on stage or on record with Elton.
His solo albums have not achieved much recognition or success.
The title of his memoirs is 'The One Who Writes the Words for Elton John.'
He battled alcoholism.

Why he might not be annoying:

He rewrote the lyrics to 'Candle in the Wind' to honor Princess Diana. It became a huge hit.
He wrote hit songs for Tina Turner, Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Womack, Cher, Rod Stewart, Jefferson Starship and Heart.
He and his wife own a restaurant called Cicada.
He produced Commitment to Life VI and VIII which raised money for AIDS research.
Elton said: 'Without Bernie Taupin there would be no Elton John. We've been together for a very long time. Without him the journey would not have been possible.'
He is an accomplished painter.
