He is typecast as cops and other humorless authority figures.
The sadistic janitor he portrays on ‘Scrubs’ is a one-joke character.
He audition for a bigger role on the show, but it went to John C. McGinley instead.
Fans complained when they put him in the show’s opening credits, so they stopped doing it.

Most of his lines on ‘Scrubs’ are improvised.
His character on the show was only supposed to be in the pilot, but his performance was so strong they made him a regular.
