He served with the 101st Airborne in Iraq.
Members of his company described him as 'calm, cool, and collected.'
He faced a mob without backup from other officers and with only a baton for protection.
Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) credited him with having 'single-handedly prevented untold bloodshed.'
The US Senate voted by unanimous voice consent to award him the Congressional Gold Medal (February 12, 2021).
