The Resume

    (June 6, 1851-May 31, 1914)
    Born in Turin, Italy
Owned the American Bar in the Galleria Nazionale and the Grand Hotel Ligure
Took out the earliest known patent for an espresso machine (1884)

Why he might be annoying:

He was less interested in the flavor and texture differences of espresso than in speeding up the brewing process,
He never built the machines on a large scale, instead installing hand-made ones in his establishments, figuring they would give him a leg up on the competition.
Some argue that his invention was not a true espresso machine since it brewed in bulk instead of producing individual servings.

Why he might not be annoying:

He exhibited his espresso machine at the General Expo of Turin, where it won a bronze medal (1884).
He patented numerous improvements to his original machine.
The Google Doodle honoring his birthday was painted entirely with coffee (2022).
