Why he might be annoying:

Oh, man, that crazy handlebar moustache!
While the official reason was given as a contract dispute with the producer, drugs were also given as a reason for lasting one season on Mothers-in-Law.
After more than a decade of inconsistent parts, he was cast as a regular on ‘Fitz and Bones’ — the cellar dweller of the entire 1981-82 season. And then the character parts stopped coming.
He managed a significant part in a commercial for a regional Mexican food chain — which went belly-up before long.
Struck by chest pains, he phoned a cab to take him to the hospital, but did not come down to greet the driver. The doorman sent the cab away without an inquiry; only the next day was the body discovered.

Why he might not be annoying:

He has a very simple middle name: Charles.
He was a close friend of George Takei.
Outside those playing the Enterprise crew, only a handful of other actors reprised their roles within the original Star Trek series.
As Colonel Gumm on the Batman episode where the Green Hornet was a guest character, he has the distinction of being the only Special Guest Villain not to be credited as such.
He was tapped to reprise his role as Mudd for The Next Generation before his death.
Fellow Transformers voice Scatman Crothers – who voiced an Autobot to his Decepticon – died 11 days after him.
A candy bar commercial in which he played a part ended up in the public domain.
