Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He never played a game in the major leagues.
He is easily confused with longtime San Francisco Giants second baseman Robby Thompson.
The highest level of minor league ball he ever reached was the single A level.
He admitted he sucked as a player, and coaching was the only way he could stay involved in the sport.
He took over the in-game management for Gabe Kapler, essentially serving as a ghost manager in his own regard.
Some baseball pundits felt he was unfairly passed over for the Phillies managerial vacancy, largely in part to Joe Girardi being available.

Why he might not be annoying:

He holds the University of Kansas record for the highest batting average in a single season.
He was a member of the Canadian men's Olympic baseball team, when it was a demonstration sport at the 1984 summer games.
He earned a World Series ring as a member of Joe Girardi's coaching staff with the Yankees (2009).
He was the first Canadian in 88 years to manage a major league game.
He guided the Phillies to a winning record, upon taking over a team that was 22-29, despite having the likes of Bryce Harper among others on the roster.
