    Located directly across the Delaware River east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Original settled as Fort Nassau by the Dutch West India Company (1626)
    Population: 71,091 (2020)

Why Camden, New Jersey might be annoying:

    The city was deeply affected by the Great Depression in the 1930s.
    After a World War II rebound, the city experienced more decline due to white flight and economic stagnation.
    In 1949, Howard Unruh, went on a shooting rampage in a Camden neighborhood killing 13.
    Riots broke out in 1971 in response the killing of Puerto Rican motorist Horacio Jimenez by two police officers.
    It's crime rate reached a peak in the 1980s and 1990s.
    Environmental problems such as water pollution have plagued the city.

Why Camden, New Jersey might not be annoying:

    Until the early 19th century, it was a transportation hub for nearby Philadelphia.
    The Campbell Soup Company is headquartered here.
    It's Camden Waterfront houses the battleship USS New Jersey.
    The city disbanded its municipal police department and replaced it with a county-level police department.
    As a result, the city has seen a slow reduction in crime since 2012.
    Poet Walt Whitman spent his final years in this city.
