The Resume

Why The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet might be annoying:

It was another typical American nuclear family complete with white picket fences.
The cast members were portraying themselves!
Harriett was the typical 50's woman, never wore slacks and obeyed her husband.
It was originally a radio serial that switched between networks CBS and NBC.
Ozzie's profession was never addressed on the series.
In fact, the only time Ozzie's profession was revealed was in a film ('Here Come the Nelsons') that served as a prologue to the television series. He was an advertising executive assigned to a campaign promoting women's underwear.
The popular joke about Ozzie's career was that the only time he left the house was to go buy ice cream.
Puberty for the Nelson children killed the series to the point where David and Ricky's wives were written into the show.
As America's social climate changed in the 1960s, Ozzie attempted to integrate more socially challenging topics into the show.
The show was never a Top-20 hit, and never cracked the Top 30 ratings chart until 1963-1964, where it ranked number 29.
In the final season, the series was broadcast in color and a new 'boy' character named portrayed by nine-year old Joel Davison was brought in to evoke an illusion of a younger family.
The series spun off an unsuccessful series, 'Ozzie's Girls.'

Why The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet might not be annoying:

It was the longest running American comedy series until 'The Simpsons' broke its record 14 seasons in 2004.
It has a huge following among baby boomers.
Its tone reflected the innocence of the era.
It was very down-to-earth and unpretentious.
It stressed positive values like personal responsibility and self-respect.
Ozzie wrote all and directed many of the episodes.
Ricky's popularity as a musician helped to raise the series' profile on television.
