Why they might be annoying:

Like a lot of hair metal bands, they had their biggest hits with power ballads.
The Chicago Tribune described their music as 'formula metal in its most regurgitated state.'
They released two albums that were primarily re-recordings of their earlier material.

Why they might not be annoying:

According to 'Brides' magazine, 'Love of a Lifetime' was the most popular wedding song of 1991.
They beat out Nirvana and Alice in Chains to win the American Music Award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock New Artist (1992).
They managed a decent number of hits for a hair metal band that emerged right as 'Nevermind' and grunge were supposedly killing off the genre.
They remained huge in Asia after their fame in America faded.
