Why Days of our Lives might be annoying:

It had several storylines that were goofy even by soap opera standards, such as Marlena being possessed by a demon, or several characters dying at the hands of a serial killer only to turn up on the mysterious island of Melaswen ('New Salem' backwards).
Matthew Ashford said of his character, Jack Devereaux, coming back from the dead for the third time, 'At a certain point it becomes too unreal... Actors look at that and think, What is this? The Cartoon Network?'
It dropped sharply in the ratings, prompting executive producer Ken Corday to declare, 'I have not seen a decline in the ratings on the show this precipitous - ever.'
On Friends, Joey became a 'Days' cast member, which must have been a hell of a commute, since 'Friends' was set in New York and 'Days' films in Los Angeles.

Why Days of our Lives might not be annoying:

In the 70s, it was considered the most daring daytime drama, taking on issues other soaps avoided, such as artificial insemination and interracial romance.
It won a Daytime Emmy for Best Drama (1978).
After MacDonald Carey died, the producers retained his narration of the opening, 'Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.'
Several cast members good-naturedly spoofed themselves on 'Friends.'
Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall was such a big fan, he would call 1 PM recesses to watch the show.
