The Resume

    (1973- )
Formed as The Golden Gate Rhythm Section in San Francisco, California
Changed their name to Journey in 1975 as part of a radio contest
    Classic 1978 'Infinity' album line-up:
    Steve Perry - Lead Vocals
    Neal Schon - Guitar, Vocals
    Gregg Rolie - Keyboard, Vocals
    Ross Valory - Bass, Vocals
    Aynsley Dunbar - Drums
Recorded 'Only the Young,' 'Still They Ride,' 'Don't Stop Believin',' 'Wheel in the Sky,' 'Faithfully,' 'Feelin' That Way/Anytime,' 'I'll Be Alright Without You,' 'Any Way You Want It,' 'Ask the Lonely,' 'Stone in Love,' 'Who's Crying Now,' 'Suzanne,' 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),' 'Lights,' 'Walks Like a Lady,' 'Lovin,' Touchin,' Squeezin',' 'Open Arms,' 'Girl Can't Help It,' 'The Party's Over (Hopelessly in Love),' 'Just the Same Way,' 'Send Her My Love,' 'Be Good to Yourself' and 'When You Love a Woman'

Why they might be annoying:

Schon and Rolie quit Santana to form Journey.
Their first 3 albums, before Perry joined, went nowhere.
They have had numerous line-up changes.
At one point American Idol's Randy Jackson, complete with leather pants, was their bass player.
Perry quit the band in 1987 for personal reasons.
Perry rejoined the band for their 1996 'Trial by Fire' album, but couldn't commit to a tour due to medical reasons, parting ways on bitter terms.
Their former manager, Herbie Herbert commented about Perry, 'He would come, and if you were drowning in the ocean, he would show up in his luxury liner and offer you a life raft in such a manner as you would decline.'
They hired Steve Augeri, a Perry look alike/sound alike, to replace him.
Rock critics routinely dismiss them as lightweight. Rolling Stone magazine likens them to a karaoke act.
Beavis and Butthead ripped them a new one for their gay video to 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).'

Why they might not be annoying:

They are the most commercially successful band to come out of San Francisco.
They have multiple gold and platinum Top 40 singles and albums to their credit.
They have sold more than 75 million albums, including 10 million for their 'Greatest Hits' (1988) and 9 million for 'Escape' (1981).
After a 10 year absence (1986-96) they scored a Billboard Top 20 hit with 'When You Love A Woman.'
They were inducted into the San Francisco Music Hall of Fame (2003).
They received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (January 21, 2005).
Perry made a surprise appearance at the induction ceremony.
Peter Griffin and his friends from Family Guy sang 'Don't Stop Believin' as members of the mock band 'Fat, Horny, Black, and Joe.'
In a 2005 USA Today reader poll they were voted as fifth favorite rock band of all time (after Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Van Halen and the Eagles).
