Their ‘revolving door’ band has featured more than 40 members since forming (1967).
They toured European Eastern Bloc nations on behalf of the US State Department (1970).
Their decision angered the counterculture movement and damaged their credibility with rock audiences.
They were not popular with rock critics, some of whom labeled them as a ‘pretentious pop band.’
Popular vocalist David Clayton-Thomas left the band to pursue a solo career, only to rejoin the band which featured an entirely new lineup.

They successfully combined elements of rock, jazz and soul music.
Their songs featured impressively complicated musical arrangements.
They were one of the first bands with an extensive horn section to have commercial success.
They won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year (1969).
Their first album, ‘Child is Father to the Man,’ was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the 1960’s.
