Why he might be annoying:

    Different sources give his birth year anywhere from 1922 to 1925.
    The Army and the Navy rejected him during World War II because of a neck injury he had suffered in a college football game.
    He left the University of Iowa without a degree after being told that, to be eligible to play football the next year, he would have to attend summer school to make up a class he had failed (1948).

Why he might not be annoying:

    While serving in the US Coast Guard, he saved one shipmate who caught on fire during a torpedo attack (1944) and rescued another shipmate who fell off the ship into 32 degree F (0 degree C) water (1946).
    As of 2021, he still held Giants franchise records for career interceptions (75), interception return yards (1,240), punt returns (257), and punt return yards (2,206).
    He was named to the NFL's 50th Anniversary and 100th Anniversary All-Time Teams.
    He was the first African-American player in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
