Why she might be annoying:

She was more of a literary hostess than a writer.
She and Margaret Fuller got into a scandal involving Edgar Allan Poe and Frances Sargent Osgood.
She refused to write an autobiography, which could have given us more detail of her life.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her father drowned in a shipwreck off the coast of Port-au-Prince.
Her house was a gathering place for famous writers of her heyday.
Her maternal great-grandfather was a lieutenant who fought for the American Revolution.
Edgar Allan Poe admired her writing and considered them superior to anyone else’s.
