    So much for separation of church and state; he was a politically involved pastor.
    He was arrested for participating in a sit-in at the Georgia State Capitol regarding the expansion of Medicaid.
    He's a Baptist minister who happens to be divorced, pro-choice, and supportive of gay marriage.
    The Republican Party painted him as a 'radical' in his Senatorial race against Kelly Loeffler.
    The GOP went so far as to accuse him of 'anti white hate speech' in his sermons.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He became the first African American to be elected Senator from the state of Georgia.
    He graduated Morehouse.
    He earned his Master of Divinity, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy from Union Theological Seminary.
    He was senior pastor at the same church as Martin Luther King, Jr.
    He was not a career politician prior to his election to the United States Senate.
