The Resume

    (March 19, 1920-January 27, 2007)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Birth name was Tiger Androwas
Portrayed Private Gander on The Phil Silvers Show (1955-57) Lt. Johnny Russo on 'The Detectives' (1959-62), and Captain Adam Greer on Mod Squad (1968-73)
Appeared in the films 'Mister Roberts' (1955), 'China Doll' (1958), 'A Private Affair' (1959), 'In Enemy County' (1968), and 'The Last Tycoon' (1976)
Appeared on Broadway in 'Mister Roberts' (1948-51) and 'The Threepenny Opera' (1955-61)

Why he might be annoying:

'Androwas' to 'Andrews' makes sense, but if you had 'Tiger' as your given name, why would you change it?
His first marriage lasted less than two years.
He was typecast as members of the military or law enforcement.
He tried to cash in on his 'Mod Squad' fame by recording a single titled 'The Mod Father.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Following Syrian custom, his parents named him after a strong animal to ensure good health.
He served in the infantry during World War II, receiving a medical discharge for injuries suffered when his troopship sunk in the Mediterranean.
He and star Henry Fonda were the only members of the Broadway cast of 'Mister Roberts' to appear in the film.
He was a good enough painter to have several gallery showings.
