Why they might be annoying:

Their name is derived from 'den mother' Lauren Bacall telling founding member Humphrey Bogart, after a night of carousing with friends, they looked like a rat pack.
The members referred to themselves as 'The Clan (not that one)' or 'The Summit.'
They were notorious for smoking, drinking and sleeping around.
Racial jokes were told at the expense of Sammy Davis, Jr.
A 1998 HBO film featured Ray Liotta as Sinatra, who looked nothing like the legendary crooner.
Several knock off groups were spawn like the 1980s Brat Pack and Howard Stern's Wack Pack.

Why they might not be annoying:

In 1960, they campaigned tirelessly for John F. Kennedy, brother-in-law of Peter Lawford.
Judy Garland gave each of them rat-faced, ruby-eyed tie pins.
All wore snazzy Sy Devore suits.
They desegregated Las Vegas casinos, refusing to perform in venues where Sammy Davis, Jr. would not be welcomed as a guest.
Despite the myth as an all-male 'bull session,' a few women, including Shirley Maclaine and Angie Dickinson, were allowed in the inner circle.
