The Resume

    (December 28, 1905-September 23, 1974)
    Born in Toledo, Ohio
Famed for his alter-ego persona Charley Weaver
Staple of the Hollywood Squares - lower left corner (1966-74)
    Father of Lewis Arquette
Grandfather of Rosanna, Patricia, David and Alexis Arquette
Appeared nine times on 'The Jack Paar Show'
Host of the short-lived TV series 'Hobby Lobby' - aka 'The Charley Weaver Show' (1959)
Wrote the books 'Charley Weaver's Letters From Mamma' (1959) and 'Charley Weaver's Family Album (These Are My People)' (1960)
Died of a heart attack in Burbank, CA at age 68

Why he might be annoying:

His humor was oft called 'dated' and 'corny.'
He divorced his wife after eight years of marriage (1934-42).
He donned a dress and did TV commercials for maple syrup as Mrs. Butterworth, complete with falsetto voice (but with mustache intact).
He also hawked on TV his own name brand of charcoal briquettes the year of his death.
After a 1973 stroke left him wheelchair bound and partially paralyzed he continued on Hollywood Squares looking gaunt and sickly.
His alter-ego consumed him to the point he rarely left character and some mistakenly thought his real name was Charley Weaver.

Why he might not be annoying:

He started show biz as a night club pianist, joining the Henry Halstead orchestra in the 1920s.
He was an in-demand radio personality who commuted between gigs at different Chicago radio stations via a motorboat on the Chicago River.
In 1956 he retired and a few years later was watching TV when he saw Jack Paar ask rhetorically on his show 'Whatever became of Cliff Arquette?'
He called Paar up, was invited to guest on his show, and his second career offically launched.
As a Civil War buff, in 1959, he opened a Civil War museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
He was a beloved fixture at Hollywood Squares from its 1966 inception until his death eight years later.
He was the patriarch of the Arquette show biz family.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
