Why she might be annoying:

She wrote, 'I did not love my mother.'
She was fascinated by death: When she was four, her grandmother took her to see an infant that had recently died, and she said it was the most beautiful thing she had seen.
Japanese scholars criticized 'The Chrysanthemum and the Sword' as an inaccurate view of their country.
It was largely based on her recommendations that Emperor Hirohito avoided prosecution for war crimes after WWII.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was partially deaf from a childhood bout of measles.
As a teacher at Barnard, she convinced Margaret Mead to change majors from psychiatry to anthropology.
She was an outspoken opponent of racism and religious intolerance.
She was one of the first people to apply anthropology to the study of advanced societies.
She said, 'The trouble with life isn't that there is no answer, it's that there are so many answers.'
