Why she might be annoying:

    She liked snuff.
    Although she was a Quaker, she dressed very flamboyantly.
    She was kicked out of the Quakers when she married James Madison (who was Episcopalian).
    She was 17 years younger than Madison.
    Her son was a compulsive gambler.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She owned a parrot.
    She liked to wear turbans.
    As First Lady, she was a society hostess and fashion trend setter.
    She popularized ice cream when she served it at the White House.
    Her first husband, John Todd, and younger son died of yellow fever.
    During the War of 1812, when the British burned the White House, she saved the Declaration of Independence, state papers, paintings, and other documents from being destroyed.
