Oddity

The Resume

    (circa 7173 BC-circa 7150)
    Born in United Kingdom
    Britain’s oldest complete skeleton
Discovered in Gough’s Cave, Cheddar Gorge, England (1903)
Linked by mitochondrial DNA from his molar to three modern day inhabitants of Cheddar (1997)

Why he might be annoying:

His cheesy name makes school kids snicker.
    His contemporaries were probably cannibals.
Adrian Targett, one of his descendants, seemed embarrassed by the media attention and admitted he knew little about his famous ancestor.
He helped start the fad of pricey DNA testing to discover one's ancient roots.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the head of the world's oldest known family tree.
He survived by hunting bears, wolves, boar and deer.
He probably died from a violent blow to the face.
He may have been sacrificed and partially eaten.
He challenges the popular theory that the British descended from Middle Eastern farmers.
