Vocalist

The Resume

    (July 11, 1953- )
    Born in Blue Island, Illinois
Recorded the albums 'A Fantasy Love Affair' (1977), 'Stargazer' (1979), 'Back to the Front' (1983) and 'Snap' (1984)
Recorded the singles 'Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me?' (1977), 'Dance With Me' (1978), 'Crank It Up (Funktown)' (1979) and 'They Only Come Out At Night' (1984)

Why he might be annoying:

He was not shown on the cover of his debut album (instead the cover featured a silhouetted woman) due to worries that R&B fans would not buy records by a white artist.
He claimed to have never even been inside a disco until he went to check how 'Do You Wanna Get Funky' was being received; he said it was 'really a boring evening.'
Later, he more forthrightly admitted, 'The musical trend of the time was disco. So even though it was not the type of music I was interested in, I altered my style to fit the times.'

Why he might not be annoying:

'Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me' was the first song to sell a million copies as a 12-inch single.
He co-wrote the Madonna signature song 'Material Girl.'
He left the music business in the mid-80s after developing tinnitus: 'I decided I had to preserve my hearing and my sanity by retiring to a quieter lifestyle.'
After quitting the music biz, he launched a successful career as an architect and designer.
