Why he might be annoying:

When his short film ‘Two Cars, One Night’ was nominated for an Oscar, he pretended to be asleep when the nominees were read during the ceremony (2005).
Before helming ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ his most extensive work with CGI had been a for Sour Patch Kids commercial starring Method Man.
His portrayal of a bumbling Hitler in ‘Jojo Rabbit’ inevitably produced complaints that he was trivializing the Nazis.
He said, ‘I don’t think I know as much about filmmaking as I probably should. I know what I want to see from a scene, but I still don’t know the names of much of the equipment on set. I don’t know the name of camera moves, I still get confused with the shapes of the angles and things like that.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He spent a decade performing comedy with Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie of the Flight of the Concords.
’Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ became the highest-grossing locally-produced film in New Zealand, breaking the box office record set by his film ‘Boy.’
He said, ‘What better way to insult Hitler than having him portrayed by a Polynesian Jew?’
He said, ‘Shooting a movie should be fun! It’s not a real job. It can be hard, but at the end of the day, we’re dressing up and playing pretend.’
