    Appeared in the TV movies ‘Love Is Never Silent’ (1985), ‘Bridge to Silence’ (1989), and ‘Sweet Nothing in My Ear’ (2008)

Why she might be annoying:

    She was told there was no future in acting for a deaf performer, so she majored in Library Studies at Gallaudet University.
    When ‘Children of a Lesser God’ was adapted into a film (1986), she was replaced with Marlee Matlin.
    She noted about the first play she did after ‘Children of a Lesser God,’ ‘It wasn’t about deafness, I was just a character in it who happened to be deaf. Audiences had trouble with that. They couldn't understand why a deaf actress was cast in the role.’

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was homecoming queen at the North Dakota School for the Deaf.
    She was a founding member of the National Theater of the Deaf (1967).
    She won the Tony for Best Actress for ‘Children of a Lesser God’ and was nominated for an Emmy for ‘Love Is Never Silent.’
    She was the first deaf person to serve on the board of the Screen Actors Guild.
    She provided the sign language interpretation for the National Anthem at Super Bowl XXXII (1998).
