    Recorded the albums ‘Sirens of the Ditch’ (2007), ‘Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’ (2009), ‘Here We Rest’ (2011), ‘Southeastern’ (2013), ‘Something More Than Free’ (2015) and ‘The Nashville Sound’ (2017)

Why he might be annoying:

    He admits that he does not remember much about his years in the Drive-By Truckers because he was abusing cocaine and alcohol.
    His marriage to fellow Drive-By Trucker Shonna Tucker broke up over his infidelity and temper.
    The band ‘the 400 Unit’ was named after the psychiatric ward of a hospital in Florence, Alabama. (‘It sounds a little insensitive now, I guess.’)
    He has a line from Bob Dylan’s ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’ tattooed on the inside of his left arm.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His music has been praised by Bruce Springsteen and John Prine (‘I really haven’t heard anybody that different in probably 30 years.’)
    He won two Grammys for Best Americana Album and two for Best American Roots Song.
    He was named official artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame (2017).
    In addition to the expected country, folk and southern rock influences, he is a fan of 80s pop: ‘I really loved Crowded House, ‘Til Tuesday, Howard Jones.’
