The Resume

    (March 31, 1929-August 7, 2022)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
    Entertainment lawyer
Clients included Michael Jackson, the Beatles, Stephen Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Madonna, Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman, Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen, and Bob and Harvey Weinstein

Why he might be annoying:

While representing Elaine May in her dispute with Paramount Pictures over the editing of the film 'Mikey and Nicky' (1976), he was rumored to have engineered the disappearance of the only print of the film to force Paramount to give in. (His response when asked years later about the allegations: 'I will not go into who did what.')
he defended Judith Regan from allegations of anti-Semitism when she blamed her firing from Harper Collins on a 'Jewish cabal' at the publisher.
He was fond of comparing critics of Scientology to Nazis. (Such as saying, 'The last time we heard garbage like this was from joseph Goebbels' after Drew Pinsky speculated that childhood abuse or neglect may have been behind Tom Cruise joining Scientology.)
He married his second wife, model Lydia Minevitch, after handling her divorce, and his third wife, art dealer Barbara Guggenheim, after defending her when she was sued by Sylvester Stallone.
He celebrated his 92nd birthday by releasing a cover of Gene Autry's 'Back in the Saddle Again.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated Harvard Law School magna cum laude and was editor of the Harvard Law Review.
He worked for the Judge Advocate's office for two years while in the US Air Force.
He began writing books at the urging of 'Godfather' author Mario Puzo (also a Fields client), who was impressed by his legal briefs.
Harvey Weinstein said, 'In the entertainment business, walking into litigation without Bert Fields is like walking into the Arctic without a jacket.'
He dropped Donald Trump as a client over behavior he considered unethical.
