The Resume

    (October 3, 1976-September 5, 1983)
    Aired on NBC
    Jack Klugman as Dr. Quincy
    Robert Ito as Sam Fujiyama
Gary Walberg as Lt. Frank Monahan
Inspired by the Canadian TV series Wojeck and 'coroner to the stars' Thomas Noguchi
Premise: A Los Angeles County medical examiner investigates suspicious deaths

Why Quincy, M.E. might be annoying:

Like Columbo, the main character's first name was never revealed -- not even in the episode where he got married.
Quincy's boss and the police always doubted him, even though by season three or so they should have realized he was consistently right.
An episode where Quincy tries to rescue a girl from the dangerous world of punk rock was almost as out of touch with reality as Dragnet's anti-LSD 'Blue Boy' episode.
Congress decided the show made Klugman a medical expert and asked him to testify about orphan drugs (1982).
Klugman sued NBC claiming the network had concealed profits from the show (2008).

Why Quincy, M.E. might not be annoying:

The show hired a scientist from the LA medical examiner's office as a consultant for accuracy.
A rape case in the Midwest was solved when the nurse took photos of bite marks on the victim, having seen the technique being used by Quincy.
It won an Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America (1978).
Jim Norton of the Opie and Anthony show parodies Quincy, interrupting stories about death to announce, 'It was MUR-DER, Sam!'
Ads for the DVD release proclaimed Quincy the 'Original Crime Scene Investigator.'
