The Resume

    (August 6, 1881-September 10, 1961)
    Born in Los Angeles, California
Birth name was Leopoldo Antonio Carrillo
Acted in 'Hell Bound,' 'Girl of Rio,' 'Viva Villa!' 'In Caliente,' 'The Gay Desperado,' 'Phantom of the Opera,' 'The Fugitive,' 'The Valient Hombre,' 'The Daring Caballero,' 'The Gay Amigo,' 'Satan's Cradle,' and 'the Girl from San Lorenzo'
Performed on Broadway productions of 'Gypsy Jim' (1924), 'The Saint' (1924), 'The Padre' (1926 - 1927), and 'Lombardi, Ltd' (1927)
Wrote the book 'The California I Love,' published posthumously (1961)
Best known for the role of Pancho in the 'Cisco Kid' films and the subsequent TV Series of the same name (1950-1956)

Why he might be annoying:

    His catchphrase was 'Ohhh, Cisco!'
He was typecast as greasy Mexican 'banditos' in the Pancho Villa mold.
He was accused of reinforcing negative stereotypes of Latinos as lazy, stupid, and child-like.
His 1932 Western, 'Girl of Rio,' was so unpopular in Mexico that protesters allegedly attempted to stone the theater in Mexico City (the film was pulled from theaters the next day).
He was the only Latino to take part in 1934's 'Viva Villa!' - a film the Mexican government deemed so offensive that efforts were made to prevent MGM from releasing it in the US.
He performed a 'Wild West' act for David O. Selznick and Cecil B. DeMille's star-studded Dewey/Bricker-Warren rally at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1944.
He had a role in John Ford's 'The Fugitive,' largely deemed by Ford aficianados to be the director's weakest effort (it butchers Graham Greene's source material).
He had a distinguished forty-year career both in film and on Broadway, but will only be remembered as Duncan Renaldo's buffoonish sidekick, Pancho, in The Cisco Kid.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made over 90 films, frequently working with Wallace Beery and Dolores Del Rio.
He took on the role of Pancho in the 'Cisco' TV series at the age of 70 (he worked through all six seasons).
He and Duncan Renaldo had excellent chemistry as Pancho and Cisco.
He traced his lineage back to the Conquistadors.
He is the namesake for both Leo Carrillo State Park and Leo Carrillo beach in California.
He frequently played buffoons but he not only had a degree from Loyola University in real life, but also spoke multiple languages and doubled as an engineer and a political cartoonist before starting work in films.
He served on the California Beach & Parks commission for 18 years, securing state acquisition for some of California's most famous landmarks, including the Hearst Castle.
He has two Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; one for Television and one for Film.
His 1906 Single Action Army .38 caliber Colt is on display at the Autry National Center of the American West.
