    He re-entered the NHL Entry Draft after he couldn't reach a contract agreement with the Capitals.

    He was able to play hockey at a high level, despite having Type 1 diabetes.
    He became an advocate for mental health awareness at the end of his playing career.
    He was considered a physical hard-nosed defenseman by hockey pundits.
    He earned the Stafford Smythe Trophy as tournament MVP at the 1999 Memorial Cup.
