The Resume

    (1961- )
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
Author of 'The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration' (2010) and 'Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents' (2020)

Why she might be annoying:

Her book puts forth the (arguable) notion that the United States is predicated on a racial hierarchy which can be identified as a caste system.
Her book led Oprah Winfrey to proclaim that America’s 'caste system' was 'the template for Nazi Germany' during an interview.
She insists she never uses the words 'racism' or 'racist' in her works, claiming that they're overused - despite overwhelmingly writing about the very topic.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her father was one of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II.
She was the editor-in-chief of the Howard University college newspaper.
She is the first woman of African-American heritage to win the Pulitzer Prize in journalism.
She won Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists (1994).
Oprah said of 'Caste': 'Of all the books I've chosen for [my] book club over the decades, there isn't another that is more essential a read than this one.'
