Born in New York City, New York
Full name was Morgan Scott Peck

Why he might be annoying:

He advocated self-discipline, restraint, and responsibility -- all virtues that he admitted he was lacking in.
    He was a chain smoker.
He claimed his frequent infidelities were an offshoot of his desire for religious fulfillment: 'I was questing, through sexual romance, at least a brief visit to God's castle.'
He admitted that he 'totally neglected' his children while writing 'The Road Less Traveled.' ('I would never advocate that, but I felt that I had to write the book.')
He admitted to not being a very good psychotherapist: 'I don't think that I've been able to empathize that well with people suffering from huge problems.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was expelled from Middlebury College for refusing to attend officer training classes.
His father disowned him (only temporarily as it turned out) when he married a Chinese woman.
'The Road Less Traveled' spent 13 years on the New York Times non-fiction best-sellers list and sold over 10 million copies.
Oprah Winfrey said, 'Few writers have touched more lives than Dr. Peck, and few messages have empowered more people.'
