World Leader

The Resume

    (April 15, 1912-July 8, 1994)
    Leader of North Korea (1953-1994)
Fought against the Japanese as a commander of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army within Mancuria (1935-1941)
Trained as a spy by the Soviet army in Siberia (1941-1945)
General Secretary of the Korean Workers' Party
Dictator of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (1948-1994)
AKA the 'Great Leader' by North Korean propaganda

Why he might be annoying:

He preached the philosophy of juche, or self-reliance, but in fact his country was propped up by support from the Soviet Union.
He launched a military attack to unify Korea, which led to the Korean War (1950-1953).
Technically, there was no peace treaty to end the war, only an armistice signed by North Korea, the United Nations and the Soviet Union.
By the war's end, Korea was split in two and families were separated on both sides of the 38th Parallel (the border between the two Koreas).
He turned North Korean society into a personality cult.
He required every North Korean home to display his portrait (talk about egomania).
He brainwashed North Koreans into accepting him as the 'Great Leader.'
He was declared 'President for Life' after he died.
Thanks partly to his efforts, North Korea is now one of about four or five nations that are still Communist.
He was a communist who heavily borrowed his style of government from Joseph Stalin.
His birthday and the anniversary of his death are official holidays in North Korea.
His country almost relies entirely on Chinese foreign aid.
The calender in North Korea begins with his year of birth.
The national flower of North Korea is an orchid named the 'Kimilsungia.'
He had to ask Stalin permission to attack South Korea several times until he finally agreed.
He was friends with two of history's biggest mass murderers, Joseph Stalin and Mao ZeDong.
His war was fought with help from China and the Soviet Union, yet he still ended with the same country with over half a million North Koreans dead.
He considered the Korean War to be a success.
He issued an order to assassinate the South Korean leadership which failed miserably with 30 North Korean commandos dead and 1 captured (1968).
He captured spy ship USS Pueblo and its crew and held it until Washington was forced to issue a formal apology (1968).
His agents had a bomb planted in South Korea's National Cemetary in a failed attempt to kill various South Korean officials (1970).
He again ordered a hit on South Korean President Park Chung-Hee, but the assassin missed and accidently killed the Fist Lady instead (1974).
He paid two Canadian hitmen $600,000 to kill South Korean President Chun Doo Hwan (1981).
He ordered North Korean agents to kill President Chun while he was visiting African nations (1982).
His agents planted a bomb in a cemetary which exploded and killed 17 South Korean diplomats (1983).
In an act of nepotism and keeping his nation backwater, he anointed his son, Kim Jong Il, as his successor (1980).
The constitution gives him the title of 'eternal president' of North Korea.

Why he might not be annoying:

He fought against the Japanese occupation Korea.
He managed to fool a lot of people for a very long time.
His first wife died while giving birth to a stillborn baby (1949).
He did not start a second Korean War to back up his promise of Korea being re-united before his 70th birthday.
It is rumored that he died of a heart attack while having an argument with his son and successor, Kim Jong Il.
