Tennis Player

The Resume

    (September 28, 1961- )
    Born in Charleston, West Virginia
Won the Virginia Slims of Arizona (1987)
    Highest ranking: 19 (March, 1986)

Why she might be annoying:

She is known less for her tennis than for wearing a one-piece Lycra bodysuit at Wimbledon (1985).
Her opponent, Pam Shriver, called the outfit 'the most bizarre, stupid-looking thing I've ever seen on a tennis court.'
The match had to be halted after two sets because of darkness; tournament referee Alan Mills then ordered her to wear a more traditional outfit when play resumed next morning.
She was the Anna Kournikova of 1985.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a two-time All American in tennis at USC.
She managed to win one more singles title than Kournikova.
She insisted she wore the bodysuit for purely practical reasons: 'This keeps my muscles warn and is very functional.... The whole purpose of the outfit is to keep your legs warm.'
Designer Ted Tinling called her bodysuit 'wonderful, the next logical step.'
Pictures of her in the bodysuit ran on the front pages of six London papers, which is six more than the average loser of a first-round Wimbledon match gets.
She and her bodysuit left such an impression that 22 years later, ESPN's Page 2 website included her on its list of the ten sexiest retired athletes.
